Medical Career and Clinical Experience
C. Robert Pettit, M.D., is a board-certified ear, nose, and throat specialist with more than 35 years of clinical experience. He studied at Stanford University, UCI School of Medicine, and UC San Francisco, where he later taught auditory theory and the diagnosis of dizziness. During his residency, Dr. Pettit was a member of the original cochlear implant team, helping advance electrical stimulation of the inner ear for patients with profound hearing loss. Although technology has transformed his specialty, he continues to value the human side of medicine, taking time to understand each patient’s individual experience and perspective. His primary clinical interests include hearing loss, dizziness, and balance disorders. This firsthand knowledge of medicine and hospital life also inspired his medical fiction novel, The Long White Coat: Death Can Wait.
